Repairing Cracks

How to repair Cracks

  • Before doing the repair, judge where the starting point of the crack is. Do not do the repair from the end of the crack, shown as in (Figure 1).

Figure 1: Do not start the repair from this end of the crack. Figure 2: Do the repair from the starting point of the crack.
  1. For the best result, do not undertake repairs in the sunlight. Do repairs in the shade, then expose the windscreen to direct sunlight when the repair is complete.
  2. Don't do the repairs at night or on a rainy day !

Steps:
Step1. Start from the end as described above, very slowly and smoothly dispense repair resin directly onto the crack.
Look at the crack from above, at an angle of about 45o to see the crack filling with the repair resin

Note : never leave any air remaining in the crack, otherwise, the result will be affected.
Steps to repair a crack

NOTE: In some cases, you may find that the crack is too narrow to apply the resin. When this is the case, you need to carefully open the crack a little, so that the resin can get into the crack. There is a simple and effective way of doing this. Attach the 'fixed support' that comes in the kit to the inside of the windscreen. Aim the applicator directly at the crack and slowly turn the barrel so that the applicator pushes the crack outwards - therefore opening it up. See Below.
Opening the crack

Take your time when applying the resin so that no air pockets develop under the resin. Air pockets will spoil the quality of the repair.

Step2. Once you have filled the crack with resin, apply some more resin over the crack and then cover with a 'curing strip'.

Step3. Move the car into direct sunlight for about 10 minutes, the crack will disappear naturally. The strength and transparency returns to the glass.

Step4. Remove curing strips and scrape away the hardened excess resin with the razor blade. The flatness, strength and transparency return to the windscreen
